I'm not asking about the terms under which the get your GPA for MD school, I understand they take every class you've taken into consideration with no exceptions but say I had a really bad stent of bad grades that lasted two semesters and ended very promptly and 128 credit hours later, I'm at a 3.4.

This may be too precise a question for you guys unless there's someone here who actually decides who gets in but will they see that this was an isolated incident? I'm wondering because what if they get the transcript in electronic form, some random person puts the numbers in, and the person who's the decider looks through all of them, see "3.4" and just passes it over without a second thought.

Pretty much i'm wondering if the fact that I have a 3.4 will make them pass over my file without seeing looking further and seeing that the whole reason I'm not at a 4.0 is because of an isolated incident that had nothing to do with med school.

Edit: I know they get thousands of applicants, so it's kind of impossible for them to look at everyone application thoroughly am I right?

AMCAS breaks down the GPA calculation by year so it is very easy for them to see how you did each year. Most schools will notice the upward trend. Just do well on the MCAT and someone will look at more than the 3.4
