How bad can it be to retest Step 1 or Step 2?

Here is a MS 4 deciding what to do now that he has not matched because of the number of times he has taken Step 1 and Step 2. It shows how important it is to get these tests out of the way.

Hard to imagine being unable to scramble to a FP residency somewhere if geography isn't a limiting factor; there may have been other factors besides the Steps. In hindsight he probably shouldn't have taken Step 2 before the match at all.

I know, but it does seem to be a pretty extreme situation-- the vast majority of AMG's will not fail step I twice or step II three times before passing. I'm only in my first year, but I guess that if I was a PD I would hesitate in taking on this student because I would worry whether or not he/she would be able to pass step three.

Agreed.

This guy is already ineligible to practice medicine ever in over ten states (see the thread linked above).
