I was wondering how bad a score of one 16 (readin comp) is .......is this section looked harshly by the adcoms???? im in a stuggle of deciding of retaking the DAT or not score AA=19 TS=20 PAT=20 but i feel that my 16 in Reading Comp is not looked favourable so am kind of confussed on what to do ....thanks for the help people

it really depends...some schools weight RC more than other schools, so you should call to find out. many schools will weed you out with score 16 or lower in any catagory.

If you are a ESL applicant, your scores are fine.

If you are not, 16 is pretty darn low now-a-days. Your AA/TS/PAT are pretty decent and will get you into at least one school if you apply early and have a good/decent GPA. But, if you know you can do better in all areas, not just RC, then retake it. Your cycle will be so much easier if you have 21+ across the board, trust me!

Good luck either way

I definitely recommend that you take it again. I think the reading comp part is really based on luck. If the passage is something you're familiar with or for some reason interested in, you'll do a lot better.

I was getting sub 20 consistently in my diags but did much better on the actual DATs.

I would also recommend taking it again. I had the same problem last year. My AA and TS are both 20, but my lowest score was PAT:16. I interviewed at two schools but now I'm on the wait-list at both of them. I'm considering taking the test over for next year. Hope this helps.......

First off, if you get a 16 in a certain section you do not have to take the exam over, especially if your AA is 20, when the prometric center sends your scores out, they only send the averages, but on the other hand the application asks for the actual section grade. There are many of students who get into schools regardless of whether they got a 16 in a section. Some kids who don't get a 16 in a section dont even get into d-school and it is because of either their GPA, poor interview, poor LOR, or just an overall ****ty application that show no community service, or shadowing, or for that matter leadership positions. If i were in the boat of having a 20 AA i would def not take the exam over. I have an 18AA and i'm still goign to apply the first day and see what happen. My application is very strong, but on the other hand i didn't get a 16 in a section 🙄

thanks everyone for the help but my gpa is ok i guess so far im just graduated this last week and ended with a 3.4 cum and scie 3.4 aswell. The problem comes because im a Canadian student and i did the can. DAt and this Cdat is only offered 2 times a year feb. and late Nov. so that is why im stuck if it was in a few month i would most likely re-write it but being in NOv. how much of an adv. is it really. I had 2 interviews in this cycly but my chances look slim USc. and Bu. BUt personally i cant really say english is my 2nd language even thou it is, i just didnt make it through the RC and honestly i dont know if i will the nex titme around either......i only fnished 2 passages and guessed the 3rd entirely.

reading comp isn't the meat of what the DAT is about.

one off score isn't going to keep you out of dental school. i guess i feel i have some confidence when i say that because my boyfriend got into 8 dental schools last year with good scores else where and a 15 in math. it never even came up in any of his interviews.

so, no worries.

There are plenty of people get in with 16 on G-chem or 15 on math, but they have good GPA. Remember DAT is not everything...your GPA counts too.

will have to disagree.

the ADA is the one that sends out your DAT scores. i have requested a personal score report, from ADA, and it has the marks for ALL of the sections - Bio, Gchem, Ochem, RC, QR, PAT, TS, AA.

to op: i cannot imagine a 16 in any subjects looks good, considering the competition. retaking the test is up to you, if you feel confident you can improve, then go ahead and take it again. the worst thing you can do it take it again and have the score drop.
