Hi All,

I was just wondering how bad is it to have W's on your transcript or D's of an F. Has anyone on this forum gotten in with W's/D's/F's on their transcript? Also, if during the interview they ask you why did u drop the class what can be a good answer....i mean i can't tell them that i dropped coz i wasn't doing good in it, can i? Last thing, if you state a medical reason in your interview for your W's (like you were sick/surgery/illness) do they ask you for a proof or they just take your word? I will appreciate your replies...thanx :=)

I am not really a big fan of people who lie to get into a school.
However, it is possible to get W/D/F and still get in.

I doubt they will ask for medical proof, but I wish they would to screen out liars.

I had a couple of W's and have recieved multiple acceptances. Although some did ask about the W's during the interview I explained why.

D's and F's are bad, but it's certainly not impossible to get in with a bad grade on your transcript. It all depends on how often it happened, if there were other factors in your life at that time, among many other things. If you get a poor grade in one class but do very well overall and there is no trend to explain it, it would be much, much better than if you regularly got poor grades. Several poor grades reduce your chances a lot. One bad grade is not the end of the world. Where you do poorly in one place, you need to make up in another!

In your interview I would be honest with them. Most of the time they can see right through the lies!

I withdrew from a couple courses before, and I have one F on my transcript (retook the course later, did MUCH better.. bleh, embarrassing to mention). 🙁 Still got acceptances!! 👍 One screw up isn't the end of the world, just don't make it a habit. Good luck.

I took a macroeconomics class in college which I registered for thinking it was part of my bachelors degree requirement. Midway through the course I found out it was microeconomics that was required, and not macroeconomics. So I dropped the class in a heartbeat. Though, I would have gotten at least a B+ in that class had I carried through, but that just lowers my gpa 🙄 . I was taking 22 credits that semester so I thought the smartest thing to do was to take some weight off my shoulders. So that's the only W on my transcript.

During my interview at SUNY this year, they never asked me about my grades. Strangely enough they didn't ask me much at all. It was more like a conversation of old friends doing some small talk. Nevertheless I would have told them the truth had they asked me about the W. I have nothing to hide. I think honesty is the best policy. Stick with the truth and you should be generously rewarded. 🙂

I got a D in my molecular biophysics class. (Not a prereq) I wasn't even questioned and got into my top choice school.

I got 2 D's. One when I was a freshman, and one when I was a sophomore. However, after that, I got nothing but A's and B's (mostly A's). If you can keep a 3.1+ GPA, and do very well on the OAT, the D's shouldn't hurt you.

I got into UHCO.

I had a W on my transcript... but, it was for a non-prereq class. They never even asked about it.

I did have one D, but I retook at a different school with a different professor and got an A.

As long as you show upward progression in your grades. You should do fine. I definitely WOULD NOT recommend lying. If you get caught, bye bye admission.
