How badly will a June MCAT affect me?

I need some advice! I am considering pushing my MCAT test date from May to June…I will get my scores back July 21st. My cGPA is 3.8 and my sGPA is 3.74, and I would say my EC's are average.

I will submit my primary first thing in June and pre-write secondaries, but I understand that my app will not be looked at without an MCAT score. Since scores come out July 21st, I assume I will be complete by end of July, early August (depending on which schools pre-screen before sending out secondaries…their review process could take a while 🙁) I feel like this is disadvantageous by SDN standards but I would like to hear your opinion!

Overall, will taking the MCAT in June make me late enough (for mid-tier and top-tier MD schools) that it is not worth it to pursue an app cycle this year?

I would really appreciate your input!

With your GPA, if you get a good MCAT, I think a June test is fine. I know people with your stats that took it in July and still nagged acceptances.

OP I was in your shoes last cycle--similar stats, took the MCAT mid-June. I had other things that ended up delaying my app more than my MCAT score (committee letter)--it didn't prevent an acceptance but it does push back my eventual interview days (and thus pushed back the earliest acceptance into med school). But you should be fine overall, you'll just have to be more patient waiting for II and results! Good luck 🙂

Make sure everything else is on point so you can finalize your app the day you get your MCAT score back. Earlier is always better but a July 21 submission is not late by any means.
