Higher MCAT for more MD schools.
You should be fine for all DO.

A higher MCAT? A 510 puts him around the 82nd percentile and with his ECs he is a phenomenal candidate. Please don't retake the MCAT if you get a 510

What makes him a “ phenomenal candidate”? I doubt his GPA is 3.5 since he’d have to be way higher sop/junior. year to offset the 2.9 freshman year. His ECs are okay but I don’t see “phenomenal”. That’s why I’m asking.

OP come back when you have a MCAT score and people will be glad to help you out. Also, check your GPA. It’s important to be accurate so you pick the right schools. Good luck on the MCAT!

I guess my question to you is what makes a phenomenal candidate? He/She has all the parts for a well-rounded solid application. He/She has great volunteer experience, very good clinical experience, seemlingly good lotr, enough research, and and solidly upward trending gpa which schools enjoy. A 510 on the MCAT would make this persons application extremely strong

I guess I’m questioning the meaning of phenomenal too. You’re right. OP has a good solid application. But I think that care should be taken when using superlatives unless the configuration of the application is actually “phenomenal”. Some applicants really do have phenomenal applications and for whatever reason they end up as reapplicant. Applying to med school is such a crap shoot. I think I want to be supportive but realistic.

Yeah there are a lot of variables when applying such as personal statement, lotr, how you lay out your experiences, interviews, which school you choose to apply, etc. I agree with supportive but realistic. I should watch my superlatives as well. I think this OP has a strong application and needs to be sure to highlight their strengths in the AMCAS.

Thanks for the feedback! I just rechecked my transcript and I actually had 2.83 and 3.1 for the semesters respectively, so it equaled 2.96. The past 2 semesters I have kept 14 or 15 credits with average of 3.65 and this semester I will have a 3.8 with 14 credits. I hope this clears up how I wrote the GPAs! Thanks again! 🙂

The upward GPA trend is very helpful. Keep up the good work!

Can't believe the famous Goro just complimented me 🙂 Thank you for everything you do on SDN, this place has really taught me everything I know about this process!
