How Can You Show Interest in Primary Care besides shadowing a PC Doc?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Explain what specific aspects of primary care interest you.

I like helping patients in the "long term". I also like the fact that going into primary care has many opportunities to help the underserved.
That's good. Just make sure you have sufficient PC shadowing to back up your statements. I think elaborating on those reasons when describing your shadowing experience, citing examples of what you saw would help show your interest. Of course, more direct PC experience where you are actively involved would be a plus.

You need shadowing. You might also try to find a volunteer opportunity in a free clinic or a federally qualified health center(FQHC).
This is a good database of those clinics and will also provide you with some information about the demographics, services provided, etc.

My overall app is volunteer heavy. I also have hospice volunteering and a modest amount of PC shadowing.

Follow up question: I don't have primary care shadowing or work experience on my primary app, but I am currently working in a Primary Care practice during my gap year and am putting it on most of my secondaries. Should this cover that base, so to speak?

It should. Bottom line: if you are interested in primary care, the question becomes "how do you know? On what experience do you base this decision."
