How Competitive Is This Cycle?

Hi All!

Just a curiousity question... maybe those of you who are in your 2nd time around, or just some people who have spoken to a lot of students about their stats etc...Do you feel this year is a very competitive year, average, or not so competitive? Just wanted to get some feelings on this.....

Very competitive. Although I applied this cycle, at every interview I was at the topic of numbers and overall competitiveness of applicants compared to years past was brought up. If run a search or two here on SDN you'll come up with several threads related to this topic (e.g. average for the DAT is going up, etc.).

If you look at the overall number of applicants from the ADEA site for the last 2 or 3 years it has been steady so it must mean more schools applied per applicant.

As you can see, there was a 17% increase in the number of applicants from last year. That is a substantial amount! 😱

Okay you got me there. The latest figure I looked at was 2003. Between 98 and 2003 the number of applicants increased by about 400 or so.
