I have the 2007-2008 Kaplan blue book. I was wondering how comprehensive the biology and general chemistry sections are? How does the difficulty of the PAT and Reading Comprehension compare to the actual DAT??

Overall, I think the kaplan blue book is very good - but does have two weak areas: biology and PAT. The book is not quite comprehensive enough for biology so I suggest getting either Cliff's AP bio or Shaum's outline of bio for additional review. The PAT in kaplan is much easier than what you will see on the real exam. The PAT questions you see on Topscore pro DAT are closer to the real exam, and if you need more help with the PAT you can try a copy of Barron's DAT guide (helpful for the PAT but overall it is not a very good book). Hope this helps.

Cliff's AP biology
Schaum's Outline of Biology
Topscore DAT

the gchem/ochem should be good enough but as previously stated the bio section will not be enough to do well. to be honest the QR wasn't enough either. Use it as a guide and fill in the rest of the info you need to learn. I remember I wrote all over my book filling up the pages with extra info. good luck studying

I took the DAT years ago and have a slightly different opinion than everyone else. Back then, the only materials available were Kaplan's Blue Book, Barrons, and Topscore. I found Kaplan to be too general for me. Maybe if you did well in the pre-reqs this would be sufficient, but for me it wasn't. I'd recommend looking at AP books for the sciences and GRE books for QR. And once you have you're fundamentals down, you can bring it home with Destroyer and Achiever. Just my 2 cents.

The Sections where all pretty solid (some gaps in Bio) but lacks in putting you to the test, use the Destroyer for practical application and you should feel a lot more confident.🙂

Your preparation is incomplete without DAT destroyer. It prepares your for questions, while the blue book is just a general overview of things you probably should know and have forgotten.
