Okay, so I woke up this morning to check my grades for the Fall term 2010.
I took 6 classes for this semester.
Got an A on the A&P I lecture (loved the class)
B in Macroeconomics
A in Sociology
B in Government
B In A&P Lab 5 points away from an A 🙁
and a C in Trigonometry (it was a fully online course) Only class available to sign up for that time

So my GPA plummeted from a 3.4 math/sci to a 3.1! wow 🙁

So how did everybody do this semester?

I'm taking an online math course next semester. Are online math classes harder?

Bio I lec/lab - A
College algebra - A
Psych - A
Macroecon - A
Mythology - A

This is my second semester of college. I'm feeling really good. Worked pretty hard to maintain my 4.0 through 29 credits. hopefully can keep that going through next semester's 17 credits

I didn't study hard enough to pull my borderline grades up to an A in a couple of classes, so I didn't make Dean's List. But who gives a crap? I'm going to pharmacy school! 😎

I guess that would depend on whether the online math tests are multiple choice or not.

I did okay considering. At least it's on par with my cGPA.

English II(honors...WORST TEACHER EVER!! Should have been an easy A...) B+
Medicinal Chemistry Lab B+
Pharmaceutics A-
Eukaryotic Pathogens A
Biology of Pollution A

Not bad. I'm on quarters, so taking 5 classes = large course load. Next quarter is gonna kill me - analytical chemistry, pharmacology, and my last microbio w/lab to complete my minor ><

In pharmacy school, you're gonna have teachers who may seem to be confusing, hard to follow, or difficult to read. You just have to figure out how to study for their classes. If you can get around the lecturing style of a "bad teacher" and figure out what works for you, I think it will help later on.

I've had classmates complain about some of them, but I found ways to get around the lecturing style of each professor and still manage to learn what I needed from those slides and presentations.

What school/program are you in that you take Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology as a Pre-Pharm student?

This fall I took Gen chem 1 and Eng comp 1 and I got A's in both of them.

Well, the issue was that he was just an ass all around, hah. The entire class was only 4 written papers, and he didn't grade on a point scale or explain anything - he would just write a grade on your paper and that was that.

I'm at Ohio State University doing the BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences degree, so we take a decent amount of introductory pharm-related courses taught by the PharmD faculty.

A&P II - C (my first C ever...I hate this class!!!)

Ochem 1 - A

Ochem 1 Lab - A-

My GPA dropped from 3.9 to 3.8

Those don't go away after you start pharmacy school. Find out what parts you like, and on the parts you don't like, find out what makes it more bearable. If you can do that, you won't hate studying for it. Hopefully.

O chem II - A
O chem lab II - A
A&P II - A
Physics II - B
First Aid/CPR - A
Political Economy - A

I loved physics I but physics II was a freaking nightmare.

nice grades everybody! I had my best pre-professional semester yet.

A&P2 combined lab/lecture = A
Organic 1 Lecture = A
Organic 1 Lab = A
College Physics 1 combined lab/lecture = A

also took 2 health services classes @ UCF to maintain my status and financial aid and got A's in both of those classes.

18 hours, 4.0 👍

Biology II Lecture - A
Biology II Lab - C 👎
Chemistry II - B
Calculus I - B
American History II - A
Interpersonal Comm. - A

Overall GPA - 3.4
Math/Science GPA - 3.07 (Math - 3.00, Science - 3.12)

Am I doing alright so far? Still have another year and a half of undergrad left.

I'd say you are doing pretty good. I think that is about borderline average if you can squeeze a couple more A's then that would be great.
I'm kind of down right now I'm GPA went from a 3.4 to a 3.1 and I'm not even halfway through my Core classes 🙁

Don't give up hope! Increasing trend, my friend.

Sounds like 1/3 of the classes I have taken. Thank god I'm great at papers.😀

Wow I love writing papers too. Wish I would've taken a class like that.

Yea, I took more then the minimal amount of english classes. Plus I have had history and psychology classes that had alot of papers.

Don't get me wrong, I like writing papers, and have never gotten anything less than an A- on any paper in my entire college career, part of the reason why this class was such a shock. This guy just wanted exactly what he wanted; but he never told you what it was, and since each paper had a different "theme", it was near impossible to figure it out. And, he basically said "I have tenure, so too bad for you if you don't like how I do things."

For instance, I worked my butt off on the first two papers, only to receive 2 B+s....for the third paper, I had the flu really bad for like a week and basically said "Oh, f**k it", wrote some gibberish and turned it in....and got an A.

SO glad that class is over. . .

I am not going to lie, I had 2 B+'s in two of my english classes(for the class). It was the same deal. I had no idea wth they were looking for. I would literally get like 8 B+'s for the term. They said they were great papers but did not knock their socks off. Some times you just have to say "F' it. You tried your best and can't figure it out.

Flash forward to now. With all my non-english classes that require papers the teachers are like OoooMmmmGeeee your papers are sooo great. They just expect less out of papers then english teachers do. For this I am grateful. One of these papers would probaby be a B- in the above mentioned classes .

If you are as talented in essays as you say, find an outlet for your talent. For other teachers are not as nitpicky as english teachers are.👍

So true

My english teachers went on and on about how you should NEVER use wikipedia as a source and that is it ESSENTIAL that you only use scholarly resources....

So later on in a biology class I had to write a 1000+ word essay about an endangered species. First thing the professor says: You may use Wikipedia as a source.

I like writing papers, HATE citing sources, bibliography, etc.

I think it's partly because English teachers and Science students just will never see eye-to-eye. They want fluff and rhetoric; we want the facts and data (for the most part). Not exactly a match made in heaven!

I feel really dumb when having to cite using APA or (worse. . . ) MLA guidelines! I work for a researcher/professor, and have to type up and format references almost daily to go out to the various scientific journals. I could tell you the ref formats for Science and Nature in my sleep...but somehow mess up the MLA on my English papers. D'oh!

Anyways...good quarter/semester everybody! Keep it up into the new year 🙂

I basically took my semester off...

Infectious disease 1: C
Infectious disease 2: C
Oncology : C
BS class on health care: A
BS class on health care 2: A

Don't let this happen to you when you're in pharm school....

But if you use MLA and title pages and make it nice looking they get all excited.😀

Exactly I love making my papers all professional but sometimes I overdo it. Like one time I was like F it I'll put an extra source in and I got points off for that. :/

your undergrad sounds amazing. i want to echo xsc614's question: What school/program are you in that you take Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology as a Pre-Pharm student?

everyone knows the trick is to not use wikipedia as a source but use its sources as your own sources. you're not supposed to do that but you can easily verify the validity of such sources now that Google has scanned a large % of scientific textbooks into its database 😀

Ohio State BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences and minoring in microbio.

I was wondering why the hell the professor said he could use Wiki. Every teacher I have ever had(even science teachers) have done everything but threaten with death if you use wiki as a source.

I did alright... at the last classes of my Pre-reqs

Physics 1- A
Calculus- A-
Sociology- A
Analytical- A-

One more pre-req to go for next semester!

Five classes- three for pharmacy pre-reqs:

Eng Comp II: A
Ethics of Health Care: A
Statistics: A-

That stats class kept me from getting my first ever 4.0 semester. Silly standard deviations and whatnot...GRRR!😡

Okay Ill give mine.
I had 4 A's and 1 B. I'm with you Chem lecture gave me a B and that kept me from getting a 4.0 for the first time in a full time semester 🙁. I think I finished with like an 88%. Oh yea we go straight grades so I was 2% from an A 🙁

Human Anatomy and Physiology - B
Organic Chemistry - Went into the final with an A, still waiting to see what my final grade was.
Organic Chemistry Lab - A
Nutrition - A

Definitely one of the most difficult semesters I have had. Our AP professor is from an Ivy League school and I doubt more than 60% of the class passed, so I am very happy I did well in it. Organic Chemistry however, with 101, 90, 90 on my exams, the ACS is the decider.

Macroeconomics - B
English / Comp - B+
Psych - B+
Bio Lecture - A
Bio Lab - A
Physics - A

GPA is at 3.5, but I'm taking a much lighter work load next semester, so hopefully I'll get my 4.0 back 😀

Organic I - A
Organic I Lab - A
A&P - A
A&P Lab - A
Calculus - A
Philosophy - A

3.7 overall :/ due to stupidity first 2 semesters

My school has one of the hardest chemistry departments and organic chem is extremly hard, i seen other orgo finals and they were multiple choice or like givent the spectrum and stuff, but ours is like a completly different language. Do pharmacy schools know the difficulty of the schools science dept?

Honestly I thought it was a bit odd as well. But I guess he was just a laid back professor.

I think the whole anit-wikipedia thing is a bit overblown. Wikipedia is much more heavily moderated than it used to be. As I understand, the general public can no longer just add mumbo jumbo to an article without approval from moderators

Organic I - A
Organic I Lab - A
A&P - A

Lol, don't even worry about. Thats a good GPA.

no they don't. there's no way for them to verify how hard/easy any school is. there are lists out there but their objectivity is questionable:
http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/national-universities-rankings/
http://grad-schools.usnews.rankings...raduate-schools/top-pharmacy-schools/rankings

assigning a difficulty level to a school is very difficult. where i'm from, UIUC is considered the top public school but I am sure people on the east/west coast never heard of the school before. i go to UIUC's sister school in Chicago which is considered a tier 3 school and I'm sure people outside illinois have never heard of it before

perhaps pharmacy schools will know a little more info regarding their in-state undergrad schools but that's about it! there's no unbiased master list that exists showing which school is #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. there's no list that shows school 'x' has a great chemistry department or school 'y' has an amazing ___ department

Gen Chem 1-A😀
Gen Physics 1-A 😀

Overall GPA 3.28(Had a rough start, I Hate english!!😡)

Science-Math GPA- 3.73

Overall Hours 27

What do you guys think?😕

My GPA dropped from a 3.9 to a 3.89. Whatever.

Chem tutor, I've seen quite a few people here that have gotten accepted with similar GPA's but they usually have something else helping them. I didn't do that well in English either so you're not alone there lol. You only have 27 credits so if you really want this, I'm sure you could bring that up to a 3.5 and above, just study hard man, it works.

Thanks dude ; this semester was my first semeser making a 4.0, it seems like alot of guys on here dont have to study much to pull that off, but i had to study 20+ hours a week. Not only did i learn many new
concepts this semester, but i learned what it takes to get a 4.0. Thanks again for the encouragement.👍

That's pretty cool. You're more of a math and science guy. Just make sure you don't overlook the other classes since they'll make up a significant portion of your GPA.

17 quarter units:
(3) Immunology-Serology: A
(2) Immunology-Serology Lab: A
(3) Biochemistry: B
(1) Biochemistry Lab: A
(4) Fundamentals of P-chem: A
(4) Cultural GE: A

Concerning this semester and school in general; i find it quite easy to get an A in a Science(especially Chemistry) or math related class compared to english. It's very difficult for me to get an A in any class where majority of the grade is writing papers, because i am just so uninterested in english. Does anyone else feel this way?
P.S. How will pharmacy schools feel about my 2 C's in english 1 and 2 ,but my almost perfect 3.73 science GPA? (Overall 3.28 GPA 27 credits)
