I was just wondering. Was it regular mail, e-mail or phone call? I'm a little paranoid...it has been four weeks since my interview and I want to know if I should spend my time checking the mail or my messages on my phone! 😉

Thanks!

Dr. Heinrich usually makes a phone call. U could give the adcom a call and inquire though cuz I've heard that the class is getting close to full. Wish ya luck.

Yeah, my friend just heard he got waitlisted today. And then I was at work and I received a call from a private number..no message, though. So, I'm a lil anxious, since we interviewed on the same day 🙁

the first batch of acceptances may be out but the class is by no means decided. Many students are deciding between NJMS and other schools and end up backing out at the May decision date... some holdonto their acceptances even longer. Theres still hope

ya..its tru..but im just goin by wat Dr. H said today at the luncheon...they are almost done wit the process...i remember someone on this board once said that NJMS's wait list didnt move much last 2 yrs...btw..same goes for RWJ so i hear....but i always thought that for a class of 170 they would accept like 300 or so...and it slowly drop until the class is filled to capacity...if there are seats open then they take people off the waitlist...correct me if im wrong...perhaps Dr. H meant that they accepted 300 or so people already now its just a waiting game to see who accepts and who doesnt.

usually to avoid an accidental over acceptance, they have about 170 acceptances floating out at one time. Everyone else is ranked on the list. Sometimes people drop early, sometimes they drop later. Most people drop after hitting the drop date and the list moves. the NJMS list moves moreso than the RWJ list since most people get scared away by Newark's location  now it would be really problematic if they accepted 350 students at one time and then 250 decided to matriculate - thats more than theyre ready to handle. I know NYU had a problem with theyre dental school about this and ended up giving scholarships to kids if they deferred for a year.

hey hey...dont pick on newark...if u go to Robert Wood..u have a 40% or so chance of being picked to go to camden..which is much worse tan Newark...at least everything is connected in newark so u never have to leave the skool. 😀 i guess ur right about the acceptance thing....

hey i interviewed 6 weeks ago. i think schools are wary of or have a good idea of roughly how many acceptances they need to give out to ensure they are near their class size capacity once they factor in yield rate. they can pretty confidently base this on yearly trends and total #'s of applicants. njms has 170 seats, so i would guess that by and large they probably need to give out 350-400 total acceptances to fill a class that size.(thats basically what rwj does, based on US news and the MSAR so njms is likely similar) so i would imagine they have given out enough seats to be close but not necessarily at their upper projection limit. ~300 sounds like a good number.

so technically they've given out enough acceptances to be full, but realistically they know there is potential for there still being space in the class, which is why its more competetivie and the process is a lot slower now. they have not stricly gone to waitlisting people either yet, they are intending to give out a few more straight-up acceptances. so people who have not yet heard anything post-interview (acceptance or w/L) are competing for those few remaining spots, the rest will be one the alternate list which doesn't get ranked and evaluated until May. however for those remaining straight-up acceptances, they aren't going to give those out until they are completely done interviewing.

good luck everyone. i hope we get in soon.

how was the luncheon? did they mention anything about admissions? how many people were there?

they did...Dr. H said that they are almost done with the process and that they will likely end sooner than b4. They only have a limited number of straight up acceptences to give out. There were a lot of people there and Dr. H mentioned that this is the kind of problem that they like to have (overcrowding). There were more people than expected..I think people were actually standing in the back because they ran out of seats......Dr. Soto mentioned tat this may be a record so there were a lot of people there. and from what i noticed...only a few people left early to go to the RWJ one....so i dont know how full the RWJ one was.

My general impression from going through all this waitlist nonsense with the UMDNJ schools last year was that RWJ has a great deal more waitlist movement than NJMS.

My experience from sitting on both waitlists (NJMS and RWJ) last year was that the NJMS class was fixed by June which is relatively early I think- despite the handful that may have dropped out afterwards. In any case that's what my "Sorry. We're not taking anymore waitlisters letter" from them said around that time last summer (2004).

RWJ on the other hand had a great deal of waitlist movement right up until August. - so much so that one of the ladies in their admissions office told me in early July that given the rate of movement I would "probably" be accepted by them "in a few weeks." (Granted that didn't happen, I still think it's indicitive of the amount of waitlist movement they typically go through during the summer. You would think that they would be pretty conservative about saying stuff like that.)

For the RWJ waitlist, btw, sometime in early June I think it was you will be sent an email asking if you would like to remain on the waitlist. This email is only sent to the top 1/3 of waitlisters. From there you probably have pretty good shot of getting in...

All I know is that I was told 4-6 weeks....6.5 weeks ago - but who's counting, really? Anyone else interview before Thanksgiving and hear nothing yet?

6.5 weeks and nothing here either...I like the theory that they have 170 acceptances floating out at any given time, and I hope that they do accept the 440 people as they did last year...hopefully by "the class is full" they only mean that they've given out 170 acceptances? Because if they didn't mean that, that would mean they've given out closer to 300 or 400 acceptances already. This would make little sense, as there would be virtually no waitlist.

Any clarification much appreciated. Worried. Is it too late for me to get an acceptance call?

Rather than an acceptance/rejection/waitlist....today I was told that they want me to go for a second interview? Anyone ever have this happen to them? I'm definitely stressing.

i think this is good...and they are intersted it you....i heard somewhere that if you dont have a big majority...they want you to come in for another interview..

i think this is very good...u mite be in the running for those rare seats left. good luck dude :luck:

Thanks for the well-wishes. After that first interview, I'd be surprised if this second one could be any worse.....but I guess we'll see
*Hoping to make it to August 11th*

phone call from Dr.Heinrich
This is the only way you are accepted. Usually he will call from his office (which doesn't show up on the caller ID) or from his home, which is a 212 area code, i think.

Yes, that happened to me last year. I got the second interview letter about a month after my first interview which was at the beginning of January 2004.
The ladies in the admissiosn office when I showed up for the second interview told me that NJMS does about one or two 2nd interviews per week, so not too many people get that opportunity.

At the NJMS luncheon a few days ago I talked to a 1st year who had a 2nd interview the year before me. It turned out that both of us were sent to the same Neuropsychologist for the 2nd interview, so be forewarned, it was a pretty odd experience for the both of us. The interviewer at the 2nd interview told me that i was invited back because the committee had a few more questions about my application. (And I never did quite figure out exactly what those questions were either, or even for what particular reason I was invited back.) Needless to say, I never did end up getting in last year - was waitlisted and eventually rejected.

Again, after talking to this NJMS 1st year I suspect that NJMS might send all 2nd interviewees to the same guy, so PM me if you like - maybe I can help you prep for it.
