I have used fastweb.com and other sites to apply for scholarships - written essays and the like, and gotten nothing but spam email and even telemarketers calling my house asking if i'm interested in online school and crap. honestly, I'm sorry to post this in rant form but I'm entering my last semester of undergrad as a bio major where i have a 3.93 GPA and have paid full bill for school for 7 semesters - i have (as i'm sure a lot of you do as well) a lot of loans. I keep hearing "hey scholarships are out there you have to look" but I guess I must not have been looking in the right places.

Now, with my last semester of college starting perhaps I have missed the boat. I have concurrently taken grad-level bio courses (i have a 4.0 graduate GPA) at my college and will finish a masters in bio next fall or next spring while I apply to med school this coming summer. Anyone know where I could look for scholarships for finishing the masters, perhaps?

Lastly, i want to state that i'm not trying to flaunt my 3.9 ugpa and 4.0 gGpa, i'm just stating it because one would imagine any of us putting in the hard work being premed would be a good candidate for some sort of merit based financial aid. Thanks for your input

This may not help you any, but the most generous need-based support programs I've heard of came directly from private schools people attended. Rarely, some monies in smaller amounts can come from banks, employers, etc. Very, very rarely from random third party sources

If you've done whatever financial aid programs were available at your school, I guess the only conclusion is that they don't have much money to spend or you were not deemed to need whatever they have (beside loans). The irony is that for many middle and low income people, private schools can be much cheaper than state schools for UG.

I got one by calling the admissions office and asking them to help me make my decision about where to go to medical school (sincerely, I really wanted help, hah). The next day they called and offered me the scholarship which made my decision for me.

Don't ask me. I hold the record at my school for scholarships applied for, and I still haven't gotten a single one.

I put in 100+ applications and all I got was some spam and rejection letters.

I always figured that these scholarships were mainly for the financially needy. I'll be entering medical school next year and there really isn't much special about me (not a minority, not financially needy, etc). Is there any scholarship available for people like me?

In college most big ticket scholarships are given to incoming freshman by their institution. Not too many avenues for upperclassmen.

For medical school, there aren't many merit based independent scholarship programs. Likely all the scholarships will also come directly from the school but there aren't many except for a few schools. Normally you are either automatically considered or asked to apply.

if your loans are a big concern for you, perhaps you should consider dropping the master's, as it will likely add little to your application and future career as a physician

I got a merit scholarship without financial need. I said this above, but I got the scholarship the day after I called the admin office asking sincerely for their help on whether I should chose their school or another one I had just been accepted to. I am aware of other people who have emailed the admin office indicating that they are trying to decide between schools and are wondering if any merit scholarships are available.
