Hi, I just sent my mail first class (just the regular old way). I'm thinking though maybe I should have sent it a safer way? My deposit was a money order (For USC).

Just wondering how people here normally do it, am I being paranoid? I didn't think about it till afterwards. I did get a certificate of mailing.

i just sent my letter like i sent any other letters. haha. although 500 is a lot of money, but im pretty naive when it comes to the safe delivery of the us postal office.

First class - personal check

I'd be more nervous if it was money order.

What would happen if a money order is lost? It seems like it can just be tracked down with the copy they give you right? And if my deposit doesn't get to USC on time I think it should be ok if I explained my situation and offered to fax a copy of my certificate of mailing and money order reciept.

I'm so paranoid about these things 👎 I just mailed it 20 mins ago.

I think it should be ok. I've never cashed a money order before, so I don't know how it works. But don't worry about it. What's done is done.

I mailed mine 2-day UPS b/c I was trying to hold onto that $500 as long as possible. And what's $12 more??

Priority Flat Rate Envelope ($4.05) + delivery confirmation ($0.50) + personal check.

If I end up going to Creighton, then I'm hand-delivering my deposit.😀

Otherwise, I'll fork over the excessive amount of money to FedEx my deposit to an out-of-state school. Given that I'm going to spend $100,000 in the next four years, a few more dollars isn't going to hurt much more.😎

Priority with delivery confirmation so in case they don't get it by Friday morning I can send out another check next day delivery.

Has any one who deposited at USC have a problem with their deposit? I hear they lose things frequently. 😕

This might sound stupid (yes it will), but it just didn't occur to me at the time to do any special services because USC gives you an envelope to mail your deposit in and just thought if I put it in another envelope (which they do if you send it overnight) it might get confused with other mail.

I was going to mail it using USPS priority mail, but because they included the envelope I mailed it first class. I paid for certified mail, which is a proof of mailing + delivery confirmation. I had no problem with it and USC sent me a confirmational email 2-3 business days later (they got my letter on a Saturday). If you don't get an email within a week, I'd call and ask.

THanks so much Senzabee! And congrats on UCSF!

personal check and first class mail with receipt

personal check, regular mail. i don't see any reason to freak out about sending money in the mail. i send my mortgage check every month (which is more than any deposit i've sent), and the usps has never lost it.

sometimes i wonder about my future classmates...

I, too, just sent a personal check in the regular mail.

Has anyone got a deposit confirmation yet from USC?
