I have gone to several veterinary conferences - NAVC, etc. How would I put this in my application? In the past I couldn't figure it out so I didn't even list it, but I think I will put it down this time.

I'm going to cop-out with the call the schools you're interested in answer. 😛

My guess would be extra-curricular maybe? But I could see it also classifying as veterinary experience.

That's a tough one and I bet that different schools would think it should be in different places. I would probably list it as a veterinary experience and then state what you learned about veterinary medicine in the description to kind of defend your reasoning for making it a vet experience. Good luck!

I think I put it under Community Activities......but I'm not 100% sure.

I think vet experience is totally legitimate. You were specifically learning about vet med, after all. But if you're worried, you can always contact your school.

I don't think it goes under vet experience because it didn't involve animals and you weren't necessarily under the supervision of a health professional. I would list it under extra curriculars, or even an honor, maybe. But definitely call your schools and ask, since I think it's worth listing, wherever it ends up 🙂

Honestly, I just put my attendance at scientific and veterinary conferences in the description of the appropriate experience they went with rather than giving them their own sections. For example going to a scientific meeting with my PI but not presenting anything just went in the description of my experience under her with a bullet point.

This one is about research...

During my Illinois file review I was told to put research under vet experience, (so that it wouldn't get lost in the crowd of the other categories). That seems weird to me.

I just called Davis and they are gone for the weekend.

I help neuro grad students with experiments on sea slugs, as well as review related articles in a classroom type setting with their advisor.

Where do you guys think this belongs?

I was told by VMCAS, CSU (at their app workshop), and other schools (forget which) to put PhD-supervised research with animals under "Veterinary Experience."

Of course, on my file review, CSU then told me that they classify that sort of research as "Animal Experience," so it seems schools will just re-classify experiences as they see fit. I've decided to just put my experiences on the VMCAS as VMCAS classifies them and let the schools sort it out if they do it differently.
