For the secondary application of my school, it asks to explain any grades lower than a B. I got all A's and one B+ (which is higher than a B so I guess I don't have to explain it) except for 1 class.

My Spanish 1 lab was online and consisted of only online assignments. The class is on an S/U scale (satisfactory/unsatisfactory). you have to have an average of 70% or higher to get an S, otherwise you get a U. Well, I forgot to do a few of the assignments towards the end of the semester and that resulted in getting a 0 in a few assignments, and ultimately less than a 70% average. So i got a U (unsatisfactory). How can I explain this without making myself look careless/forgetful? Is it even possible? should I just be blunt and say I forgot and not give excuses?

Thanks

Just tell the truth. You'll be fine.

If you really want to go all out, you could say you struggled to adapt to learning a new language and as a result now appreciate those who are ESL/non-english speaking.

You could also just say it was due to poor time management skill which since you have fixed.

I wouldn't just say "I forgot," give a reason why you forgot if anything.

This will be far easier to explain than why you are submitting secondaries in November...

Sorry I couldn't help myself.

I'm in a 7-year program, so I'm only applying to my university's medical school and i'm pretty much guaranteed an interview if I meet benchmarks. Otherwise, I'd know it's terribly late lol. So you got any real advice? 😛

Lol, well the real reason I'm giving you a hard time is because you have absolutely NOTHING to be concerned about. All As, a B+ and one U?, amcas might even just make that a P. That's a great GPA!

I'm even less concerned now that you have provided this extra info about your near guaranteed interview. If this is the case, why does this U even concern you? I'm sure your GPA is above the required threshold.

I just don't want to make it seem like im a forgetful or careless person.

The fact that you have maintained a near perfect GPA is pretty convincing evidence that you are neither forgetful nor careless. And the fact that you got a U (which by the way is the dumbest grade I have every heard of), just proves you are human.

I never quite figured how AMCAS translates U grades. I was having some issues with a class this past summer and I took a W over U although I'm not sure if a U is all that bad since it doesn't alter GPA in any way.
