Hi all, this is my first time - please be gentle

Anyhoo, my question is regarding finding the email addresses for doctors - I need to spend some time shadowing doctors sooner than later, and I was told that the best way to go about that was just to mass email doctors and hope for a response.

My problem is I thought I could just get their emails via hospital websites, but it looks like that's not the case. Is there any database or such that has the emails for different hospitals? Does anyone else who has gone through this know the best way to find the email addresses for different doctors? I don't know any doctors personally, and my own doctor hates my guts as far as I can tell, so that's not the best option. I can find phone numbers pretty easily but I don't want to be rude and put someone on the spot over the phone.

I apologize ahead of time if this is a common question

I'd say that this isn't the way most people get to shadow doctors. Many people shadow doctors through family friends or conferences. If you volunteer at a hospital you can ask the doctors that you may have met. I'm sure that you won't find a "database" filled with doctor emails.

Contact the local medical society. Most physicians, myself included, do not want e-mails or cold calls from pre-meds that are trying to shadow. Our local medical society sets these things up for us and makes sure that the pre-med student signs the proper forms so that they don't have to hassle with the hospital or my office.

I say check out the website of the medical center or hospital that the doctor works in.

This is basically what I did. I don't know if who I emailed is considered a medical "society" though. I emailed the AOA mentor program. They keep a list of DO's (Im applying DO) who have been willing to let pre-meds shadow them. So, they looked at my home location and gave me a list of the info of about 10 DO's who live within about 15 minutes of me. I will try to contact these 10 physicians shortly and see what happens.

I think a number of them should let me shadow them. Afterall, they would not allow themselves to be on this mentor program list if they weren't friendly to pre-meds.

FYI:

Most physicians do not publicize their email addresses due to concerns over patient privacy (email is not very private) and the unsolicited emails that most people receive on a daily basis.
