I'm at a good program, but for family reasons I need to go back to my home state. I'm an intern. Is it possible to transfer to a new program and, if so, how do I go about it?

Do I need to get a new token number from my old medical school to register for ERAS? Where Do I find a list of places that take PGY2 residents? I'm not switching fields, just going from psych to psych. Will this be hard? Possible?

Short answers to your questions include: you may need to re-register for ERAS depending on whether the programs with open PGY2 positions require you to go through the Match. The year I applied, for example, Stanford required PGY2 transfers to go through the Match, whereas UCSF had a more informal process set up. The transfer process is difficult, but not impossible.

The transfer process has been discussed in previous threads recently, for example here (Dec '06) and here (Apr '07). Searching the SDN forums is likely to yield further information that may be useful to you.
