How do med schools view GPA’s from different schools?

(I attend UW and I only have a 3.1 after my freshman year, with a ton of Running start credits).

A 3.1 is low by any schools' standards, and below-average at UW:

Of course, that takes into account ALL majors which is, of course, not representative of the difficulty of your major.

A high MCAT will cancel out some of the affects of a 3.1, but your chances of getting in will still be low:

My Opinion: If you attend a super rigorous/top school, and you have a marginal GPA, adcoms will give you a second look. No guarantees, but a thorough second look. I think a high GPA from anywhere is viewed as such, while a low GPA from a less rigorous school is really hard to make a case for.

BTW, 3.1 is below marginal (I'm talking between 3.3-3.5) and UW isn't typically included in "most rigorous undergrad" lists.
