I go to a top 30 medical school and I am just finishing up my first month in Rad Onc at my home school. I should be getting two letters and I'm working on my first research project. I got a 219 on Step 1 and just found out today I got a 249 on Step 2. I only had one letter of commendation and it was in psych. No honors from the first two preclinical years. I have 3 aways in Rad Onc set up for the next three months. So I'm wondering how my chances look for matching? Will my big jump from Step 1 to Step 2 even be noticed?

i think you'll do just fine

What's a letter of commendation?

1. commendation - an official award (as for bravery or service) usually given as formal public statement

2. commendation - a message expressing a favorable opinion;

I wasn't confused by the word. I just haven't heard the term regarding med school performance.

Is this equivalent to a letter of reference?

(Maybe he showed exemplary bravery in Psychology.)

i would assume its the same thing...

our system uses honors and letters to distinguish top 10 % and 10-25 % on each rotation
