I noticed on my interviews that not all candidates are interviewed by the PD..are interviewers assigned randomly or do the PDs only interview the candidates they are especially interested in? Or am I being too analytical about this?

It's program-dependent. Here (anonymous Midwestern community program) we just try to grab as many attendings as we can on interview day and get them to see a candidate. It's pretty random depending on who's available. Sometimes a candidate asks to speak with someone from child, or substance abuse, or research, etc and we try to accomodate that.
