How do Programs view applicants that failed to match in another specialty?

I'm a US MD (graduated this year, currently in an intern year) that failed to match ENT last cycle, I've since decided to apply for radiology (not trying again for ENT) and I'm wondering how programs will view my application. I think my app. is reasonably competitive: 240s, 2 publications. I had >10 ENT interviews (several of which said I interviewed well) but I think I failed to match primarily due to average 3rd yr and relatively little research.

Will the previous match failure, in itself, significantly hinder my chances for radiology? I'd ideally like to go to a decent academic program, but I'm not too picky.

Elite programs may scoff at you for not being die hard DR, but honestly screw anybody who has that sort of mindset.

You'll get a lot of interviews with the application you've described (assuming you're not a weirdo). I went through a radiology match with a mildly less competitive application than you (after failing Ortho match) and I got 20+ Radiology interviews.

One thing to keep in mind is the spot you're interviewing for is a SECOND year position. SO, if you match into that spot, you'll have a whole year gap between now and when you start you Radiology residency. I would actively try and find open second year positions so you don't have to take a year off (assuming a year off would be detrimental to your financial situation etc). As you interview at programs, many will mention having open positions to you.
