How do Residencies work?

Hey! Can someone please explain how pharmacy residencies work? As a graduate of a Pharm.D program, what are you capable of working as? Which specialties do you need a residency for, and how long are they, etc? For instance, can you work at a hospital with just the 4 year education and a Pharm.D? I don't really know much about it, but I would like to! Thanks!
