How do schools view retakes?

Do any schools independently average or substitute a higher grade retaken course?

I believe that GPA calculation is the same for every school. They average the GPA from retakes.

My health professions advisor mentioned some schools averaged the retake.
But he didn't think they all did.

AADSAS will average both grades for all retakes. Schools will see that and will not do a separate GPA calculation.
