i am getting thinking about doing several second looks this month. What do you guys wear when you go on a 2nd look? Do you wear a suit again just like when you initially interviewed? or do you just wear some nice clothes like you are going to a clinic (ie...slacks, shirt and tie)

I've only done one second look and they requested that I wear clinic clothes/business casual...

You're not supposed to wear your white coat, are you? Both of mine are pretty nasty looking at this stage. 😱

I have the same question: to wear the white coat or not?? i figure its perfectly fine to wear a shirt and tie. my white coat looks like its been through a few food fights.

I wouldn't bring a white coat. If they really want you to wear one, they will find one for you to wear. Dress for a clinic day and relax.

That said, I am wearing my suit and buying a brand, spanking new white coat.

Ye haw.

We had a second-looker who came and wore a LONG white coat.

I thought that was kind of lame.

Agreed. No white coat. Would dress nicely though. If you have a suit thats fine...may be a bit much, but you'll look professional. At a minimum, shirt and tie.

Advice from my PD: Do NOT wear a suit. Unless you are coming over directly from another interview...

"If you have a suit"?????. Just think about what you're saying. 🙄

Consider a shirt with paislies and a plaid tie. It will get you a looong second look.

And if anyone comments, be sure to lecture them about how paislies are an ancient Indian fertility symbol. Then wink. That'll get you some looks too. 😉

I just did a second look and it was requested that I wear my white coat...

i wore clinic clothes under it though.

i emailed the chief resident and they told me what to wear basically (peds, mind you); shirt and slacks, no tie, no underwear.

what is this "underwear" you speak of? sounds rather binding and restrictive to me 👎

I did a second look -- just wore a nice pair of slacks with a sweater. at one point, the resident gave me scrubs which was nice-- and i changed and went around with her in scrubs. i felt really exhausted on my second look though and was so happy when it was over. 😀

keep in mind that some medical schools have their students wear long coats. when I was at UF for an away you couldn't tell the residents from the students because the students wear long coats. maybe the second-looker wasn't trying to be a lame ass. But I still would have thought them lame 😱
