So, there is a possibility that I will not be getting in anywhere this year. And I probably have to start thinking about a gap year job..... but I am on one waitlist.

Can I apply to jobs and be like 'I am waitlisted somewhere and might be going to medical school' or would that look really bad? Would it be better to just wait and see if I get in anywhere, and would I be much better off applying after not getting in anywhere (like would that be really the only way I could get a job).

Right now I'm sitting on two rejections post interview, one waitlist, (those three were all safeties) and still waiting to hear back from two places I interviewed. I'm at 3.9/36s and have good ec's/good essays/great recs so apparently i do not know how to speak english. At this point, I'm willing to shell out dollars for interview help (since apparently I'm doing something dramatically wrong) - anyone know any good services out there?

yea it would look bad if you told them that, it takes a lot of money to hire a new employee so you have to look very dedicated to their cause. dont bring up med school at all and done even list your MCAT on your resume

searching for jobs takes a lot of time. if you are a senior, use your on campus recruitment and whatnot to make the most out of it

dont mean to bump this but hey... anyone else have any advice? lol.

instate did not take you?

😱 :scared: has to be something like LOR, interview...

Dont tell if you wanna get a job....

they dont care about your med school dreams, they want a body to do a job!!

And it costs ALOT of money to train not to mention the time costs...

A temp agency might not be a bad idea.....

How do you not get in anywhere with a 3.9/36s? Are you really that bad at interviewing? If that's the case and I were you, i'd apply to jobs that I wouldn't want and tell them during the interview about going to med school so that you just get practice with doing interviews. Apply for jobs that you want at the same time, but don't tell them anything about med school. People come and go at any job. Employers deal with it.

Get a job that doesn't require 1+ year committment. Based on your self-described lack of interviewing skills, something involving people interaction such as customer service/sales/etc might be a place to look and gain interviewing skills.

You're written English isn't bad at all. Maybe you should seek out some speech therapy/program to help you with, I'm guess, thick accent/poor pronunciation. As far as the job goes, don't tell them you will quit in 1 year. You won't get hired.

my LOR's are slamming. as is my personal statement/secondaries.

and btw, i dont have an accent and i'm not foreign.

In actuality, i have good ideas on medicine, and know my own story well.... the content of my speech in the interviews is good. my ideas are good.

my problem is in presentation. i'm a quirky and unique dude, and the way i present myself is not quite in line with what is ideal in mainstream american culture. the way i do things is fine with my friends and fine at my university (where you can be as unqiue as you want to) but just isn't flying in such a mainstream setting as medicine. overall, i just played the game very poorly.

it's tough though, cuz i don't need to get better ideas... i need to change my mannerisms. That is something that would probably take coaching, because such subconcious habbits are quite hard to change.

i mean its a culture shock cuz this is the first time where being myself has not flied. on past internship interviews, i could just say interesting things, and act really however i felt... and get hired on strength of my intellect! and now this. eugh, lol.

oh and thx for the positive feedback guys. great to hear sdn is as bitchy as ever.

but seriously if anyone knows a good interview coach i could get, that would work. im in the process of trying to sort of shift my mannerisms from 'my style' to 'mainstream' and its tricky.
