How do you apply to prelim?

Hey guys I am submitting my ERAS application tomorrow and was wondering how to apply for my prelim in medicine. I know with neurology your first year has to have at least 8 month of medicine and some transitional program don't qualify. My question is do I still apply for a transitional year or do I apply under the internal medicine section in the ERAS. Thank you for the responses.

You will want to apply to Internal Medicine preliminary positions to make sure your requirements are covered.

Only apply to programs that have a combined prelim program. It makes the entire process much easier. Besides, it is a big advantage to start your year knowing the computer system and many people in the internal medicine department.

Wish I had heard this before I applied...though I don't know it would've changed the way I applied.

I ended up applying to several prelim programs in each geographic location. Usually one was at the same hospital where I was applying for neurology, but the others were not. I was concerned that I wouldn't have time anyway to go to all these prelim interviews, but everyone said better safe than sorry.

Now that neuro interviews are starting to come in (and I'm already having difficulty with scheduling them), I seriously doubt I will have time to go to any prelim interviews that are in separate hospitals.

I'm don't have any scheduled time off for interviews though. I may end up getting 2 weeks off, if only I could figure out which would be the ideal 2 weeks to have for interviews! Any ideas?
