How do you get your mind off this hellish process?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

How do you do to distract yourself from the constant contimplation of this whole debacle? I can't even concentrate any more because I am constantly thinking about it; i.e., my responses during interviews, what am I going to do if I don't get in this year, how will I afford to apply again, etc. Someone please help me get my mind off this painful and endless waiting! 😕

Logging off SDN is step number one! 😀

I'm sure a lot of people feel the way you do. I can't take my mind off it too!

I try but then I keep wondering if anyone's posted a response to my thread.

How do I get my mind off things?

I drink whiskey sours. = )

Also, adding to my problem, is my addiction to this website but then I guess that's another thread. 😀

I did batting cages for the MCAT, billiards for the application period, and now, while waiting for the waiting to finally end, I read. I think reading is a good thing. You get to be someone else in another world. It's an excellent way to get away from yourself (not to mention SDN) by being someone else. Or perhaps you can try acting. Oh, yeah... I also don't talk to any premeds. It's easy for me becuase I am no longer in school. But when I come across one, I talk about anything else. Anyway, in the long run, it's not healthy to be completely obsessed with only one thing. ... though I completely understand it.

Grab the bottle of lotion and the bottle of Jack and the Victoria Secret Catalog.

Lock my door....then await pure bliss

hang out with my non premed friends!

wait all my friends are non premed! 🙂

life's pretty good!

Have you considered taking up a serious hobby? One that you can really be passionate about. As others have said, sports/ physical exercise is always a great outlet. Are you artistically inclined? What relaxes you? Personally. . . I run in the park every morning, and I paint and read whenever I can. I also volunteer (which I find very rewarding; it allows me to keep perspective), and my fiance and I make sure to go out to dinner once a week.

I definitely understand how overwhelming and difficult it all can be! It's hard to do this, but really make it a priority to pay attention to the things that are equally as important to YOU, the person, as are important to the premed applicant consuming you. Take a deep breath, and do something you love. It IS worth it!!!

I've been playing Grand Theft Auto 3 on my PS2 more than a crackwhore smokes crack. I think I've killed more innocent people than a nuclear holocaust. But it did keep my mind off this process.

Killing innocent civilians on Grand Theft Auto 3 was a major form of relief for me too! As soon as I got the rocket launcher, I was in pure bliss.

checking out the lounge, beading jewelry, watching movies (when I can), playing lacrosse (when I can!!), and other things I probably can't mention on here

Thanks for the advice you guys! I'm going to spend the weekend playing Tomb Raider with my 12 year old cousin. Next week I'm going to start exercising everyday after school. And I'm going to spend more time with the kids I mentor, they always help me forget my woes. 🙂

There's more fun using the flamethrower in GTA3. Of course, being the dedicated pre-med student, I completed more ambulance missions.

For me:

1. SDN is therapeutic. Why? Because people are suffering as I am! To those of you who are not suffering, I shall...nevermind.

2. Photography: people and nature

3. Computer games: Age of Empires: Ages of Kings - The Conquerors Expansion (SoLiD Clan)

4. Read as much photographic technical information as I could possibly absorb from web, mailing list, discussion forum. Then, practice!

5. Camping. Recent trips: Anza Borrego (San Diego, CA), Death Valley. Future trip: Redwood National Park/Prairie Creek State Part (4 nights/5 days long/booked campsite). Still need to get hiking boots but no money! Any donation?

6. Volunteering! VERY therapeutic and reinforce why the hell you are doing what you are doing!

7. Tease my parents!

8. Party!!!! Party!!! And more Party!!!

9. Oh! Did I forget the day job? 😀

I wish you peace of mind! If you find it, give me a piece of it!
