I took OCHEM1 but not OCHEM2 and trying to teach myself OCHEM2 just by using Kaplan blue book.
I was going through chapter 1~10 so far (total of 15 chapters in the book), and it seems OCHEM2 has a lot more stuff than OCHEM1.

For example, all I can remember from taking OCHEM 1 was
Sn1,Sn2,E1,E2 and then some of the reactions involved in alkane, alkene, and alkyne.

But it seems about 10 chapters out of 15 chapters in Kaplan blue book is OCHEM2 stuff since I don't remember learning them from my OCHEM1 class.

It seems OCHEM2 has so many memorization such as what reacts with what and produce what and how ...etc.

I heard that DAT covers most of OCHEM1 stuff and not OCHEM2. I remember reading someone's DAT review saying that he didn't take OCHEM2 and got over 20 in DAT.

how do I need to study OCHEM for DAT? Should I focus more on OCHEM1 stuff? and How do you guys memorize all the reaction in OCHEM2 since there are so many? Maybe it's nothing compared to how much we should memorize for BIO section but I guess I am just freaking out 😱

get the dat destroyer buddy!!..its got roadmaps that are clearly labeled and easy to read. For questions its got topics covered from both orgo 1 & orgo 2

I used an open source free software called freemind. You can download it here: http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

It helped me a lot for memorization purposes both for the DAT and from my Orgo I and II. See the attached pdffor an example of my orgo learning chart generated using this software. Good luck!!

Well... you probably need to actually take ochem2 since it's a requirement. I'm not trying to mock you, but it really will be much easier to be taught by a professional rather than learning it yourself. You can attempt the DAT without ochem2, but I don't see why unless you have severe scheduling issues. I'm personally delaying my application cycle for a year so I can take ochem2, and maybe some upper level bio classes like anatomy, and so I can give myself plenty of time to study rather than trying to rush into it this year.
Anyway, I digress... just make sure you're really certain you want to try to learn ochem2 yourself.

I still have about 1 year before I take the DAT and I will take OCHEM2 before the DAT, but I am just trying to finish studying it during the summer before I take the class so I can ace the class and also do well on future DAT 🙂

My plan was to finish studying OCHEM before August 1st and start studying for math and PAT until the fall semester starts again but I am still stuck at chapter 10 of Kaplan blue book 😛

By the way, I am surprised that you are still here, Flipper. I thought you took DAT long time ago.
You were very smart about 2 year ago(I saw your contribution in SDN about 2years ago and thought you were already too smart at that time) as far as I can remember 🙂
