ok maybe its me but reading all these threads and hearing about the people who got into vet school its driving me crazy. im working at a vet clinic now full time. i have 2 more years of undergrad before i apply and the more i read the more i freak out. i know this is what i want to do more than anything. but after reading all these loans and how much debt to annual salary a year its a little overwhelming. just wanted to see what are some easy ways to dealing with the WAIT before getting into vet school.

I installed a 3rd monitor on my computer (yeah, 3, 1 for computer, 1 for my TV tuner card, and now one with Thunderbird set to refresh its mail every 2 min 🙂

Actually I'm just jealous that you have three and I'm stuck with 2. That and my primary monitor died yesterday (luckily it's under warranty) so I'm stuck with just one now.



While I wait, I'm studying and hanging out with friends. Nothing really new except this nagging, screaming sensation in the back of my mind.

I am riding my horses every day, and just decided I will paint my house inside and out this month. Other than that trying and I emphasize trying to not focus on the issue at hand constantly.

Oops, i read the first post wrong. I recommend beefing up whatever area you have the least experience in i.e. diversify your hands on animal time. For me i had to find a sm. animal clinic to add to my lg. animal experiences.

So you are not talking about the wait of hearing back from a vet school, you are talking about the years of work it takes to get into vet school, right? Then you've got it simple! You just work hard, enjoy being in college, do your best in school, learn as much as you can at a vet's office and live your life! It is happening now, not in 2-3 years when you start vet school, so enjoy it and don't miss out because you are wanting so badly to be in vet school.

If it's reeeeally getting to you, you can do things to actively help the application, so when you get there it's easier. Example: Keep a spreadsheet and update it with every vet activity, every time you see a new case, etc. Put in vet, contact info, hours, interesting cases, start date, and end date. Then when you go to fill out the VMCAS, you've got it all right there.

I'm with Sofficat. When I first opened this thread, I figured it was about waiting to hear whether we were in or not. Let todays troubles be enough for today. Worrying about something years away will just make it difficult to handle the day to day stress. I don't know what you life is like right now, so I won't give the 'just enjoy life' advice. What I will say is that you know it is important to do as well as possible, given your life circumstances, in school and to gain veterinary experience in a variety of areas. Focus on those priorities and on figuring out who you are (and by that, I don't mean pre-vet, student, etc....I mean all the components in that.) Explore as much as you can, so that you don't have doubts later on about the path you are chosing. If you feel that you must do something more right now, improve your study skills, look for opportunities to work with vets in less common areas (wildlife rehab, zoo, farm) and in specialities (behavior, rehabilitation.) Working with vets that tend to working dogs can be a very different experience, because the priorities are very different. The other thing that you can do now is keep an eye on the issues in veterinary medicine from various perspectives.

thanks everybody. well I finally figured out who I am so I can cross that off. haha I'm going to start that spreadsheet. great idea. we have the best ortho. doctor in our area so I get to see a lot of cool stuff. I'm so used to everything happening so fast that patience isn't a virtue of mine. right now I'm haelping my wife get through her last semester before PT school. selling my house (or trying to... stupid economy) working as many hours as I can and going to school at night. a lot going on. a little overwhelming sometimes
