Hey folks. I'm wondering how to introduce myself to the patients I encounter during Step II CS. Should I say - "Hi - I'm Dr. Smith - I'll be taking care of you today" or "Hi - my name is Julia Roberts (or whatever) - I'm a 4th year medical student who will be working with you today." What do you guys suggest? Thanks!

"Hi [patients name]. Student Doctor Roberts" with a handshake, "what brings you in today?"

literally anything cordial and brief works.

I did "Hi Ms. X, I'm YZ, medical student. What brings you in today" or "how are you today?" And then usually a hand shake, nod, acknowledge, whatever for what they say while draping them (since the drape is on your seat). The drape threw me off a tad since usually for exams that need some level of a drape the patient is already situated in the outpatient world - or under a blanket in the inpatient world. I'll let you know how the above approach turned out in three months.
