i'm from the state of michigan, so i'll be applying to all the michigan schools. aside from that, i don't really have a list. i have the MSAR, but don't know how to use it efficiently.

Michigan resident, ORM, 510 MCAT, 3.6 GPA from top 10 grade deflating school. Around 2000 hours of research in the last 4 years at one lab (i have an amazing LoR from an MD who's the PI of the lab), poster authors at national conferences, 150 hours of hospital volunteering, and 40 hours of shadowing.

Is there a certain way to make a list? MD only. Thanks!

Step 1: Purchase this https://apps.aamc.org/msar-ui/#/landing

Step 2: Add state schools (although UM will be a little bit of a reach)

Step 3: Identify OOS schools where your MCAT & GPA fall within the 10th and 90th percentile of accepted students AND matriculates a fair portion of OOS students (15% I think is pretty safe)
- Be leery of public schools that accept high numbers of OOS - some have arrangements with states in the region (ex. Washington accepts nearly all students from WWAMI states)

Step 4: Write list down

Step 5: Post list in the "What Are My Chances" subforum for advice/additions/removals

Also, read very careful the missions of med schools, and poke around their admissions websites. Many applicants do NOT do this when making up their lists.

The higher the pole you want to climb, the slipperier it gets, so with the Top Schools, the MCAT needs to be closer to their medians, not merely > their 10th %ile.

As mentioned above, OOS state schools favor the home team.

Include DO schools on your list. Start with MSUCOM, MUCOM and CCOM

i heard that if you reject a DO acceptance, you can't get accepted to DO ever again. i would like DO for an extreme backup. i don't plan on doing primary care, and I feel that my shot at MD is pretty good (i think?). also, is my list fine so far? thanks so much, i really appreciate your help.
