How do you prepare for RC section of DAT?

This might not be a problem for most of you, but it is for me. I think the most difficult section on DAT is reading comprehension. So does any of you have suggestion on how to practice/enhance reading skills, especially for reading scientific passages? Any of you subscribes any kind of science journals/magazines? What do you recommend it? Thanks.

I got a low score on RC so I called up Dr. R over the weekend to ask for an advise...he suggests to get the MCAT verbal reasoning and spend about at least an hour everyday to do the problems. I also got the princeton review reading smart, I think it's quite helpful.

are you serious? what a horrible advice! the mcat's are edited differently from the dat and the question types are DRASTICALLY different.

My suggestion: DON'T hunt for answers (its wayyy too stressful, you'll only give yourself a headache). Just read the question and then read the passage until you find the answer to the question and then move on to the next question...half way through the questions you've got the whole passage read and a good idea of whats going on.


i tried reading scientific journals, but honestly...they were way more convoluted and detailed then anything you'd see on the exam, unless you're using scientific american. i'd just use the kaplan practice sections in the blue book and just practice the above technique on achiever, topscore, and kaplan practice tests.

It depends on what strategy you use. I read the whole passage and outlined based on the Kaplan strategy. I only wrote a few words for each paragraph, but I usually remembered the answer without having to look back. If I didn't remember, I almost always knew exactly what paragraph to look in. This saved a lot of time and helped me to answer conceptual questions.

The only thing I did for practice was read recreationally almost every night (read something you want to read to help to go through quickly) and then just practiced to make sure to get my timing right.

It depends on your style, but it got me a 24...

Studentdent: CALM DOWN, "what a horrible advice!" is merely your (one person) personal opinion...I was told by a few people (including Dr. R and my dentist) that the MCAT verbal will help, it won't hurt...so chill...
