HOW do you start an UPDATE LETTER?

how do you start the letter? What should the first paragraph say? Do you jump right into your updates or introduce yourself first?

if you've already written an update letter, what was your first sentence?

I started my letter off like..." I would like to take this opportunity to update your office of some of my most recent activities that may not be reflected in my AMCAS and secondary applications..."

All of this after a brief dear 'so and so'
