So I decided to go ahead and purchase this book. I don't intend to make it my primary resource, but read so much about it here on the forum.
For all of those that have read or are currently reading this book.... I am curious to know .. how do you study this book?..I mean do you just do a light read? study it hard core and memorize it (like you would UW,e.g.)? or just use it as a resource to clarify things?

I would hardcore memorize it because every question on my internal medicine shelf was drawn from this book =P

naaa my step 2 exam is on Saturday and I read through the StepUp to Medicine for the second time round again; I was glad I did because so many internal med questions were drawn from there.

Would you go back and study it again for CK or move onto a more concise review book, like Step Up to Step 2?

i'm using step up to medicine as my primary resource book for step 2 ck. i read it once during medicine shelf and i'm reading it now for the second time. i hope that step up to med + uworld + secret combo works out for me :luck::luck:

So how are you supplementing for the other subjects (non-IM ones)? or are you relying entirely on UW and secrets for those?

Many people use Step up to Medicine and the non-medicine chapters in First AID for CK OR Just add secrets.

I think these combinations would work:

1. World + SUTM + Secrets
2. World + SUTM + Non-medicine chapters in First Aid
3. World + DIT/Step-up to Step 2 +/- secrets
4. World + Secrets for the minimalist

I think the only problem with using SUM as a primary resource for step2 is if you haven't already studied it during your MS3. If not, you'll get hung up on alot of useless stuff that's irrelevant for step2. Regardless, the abulatory chapter is key for FM,IM rotations AND step 2.

IS it O.K. to replace SUTM with Kaplan IM? and use SUTM as an extra resource when needed..because Kaplan IM is more up to date than SUTM.??? thx

Thanks for the tip.

NMS Medicine is a solid book that I would consider over SUTM. Very underrated.

How about Kaplan IM? What if I use that as my main book and follow up with MTBs+UW.
And use SUTM for anything unclear.

What do you think of this combo?
