After you submit ERAS, where is the option to undesignate and reassign a new letter?
MyEras -> Programs/Programs applied to -> pick the program -> re-select those LoR checkbox and click "Select".
I used this process to deselect a LOR but the application tracking system for each program says that the letter is available but not retreived. However the LOR assignment report for this particular LOR is all "greyed out" for all the programs that I deselected it from. Can someone explain what is going on?
They can still get your letter. Once you assign it, they can get it forever. THere's no going back. Unassigning allows you to submit a new letter, but they can still see the old one.
So if we send 4 LORs at first, and then add a fifth one a few weeks later, the programs can see all 5 LORs?
Also, if a program has already downloaded the original 4 LORs, how do they know about the new one? Are they notified or should I let them know myself?
Is it a problem if you assigned 4 letters initially but you may not use the 4th after all? Would programs not consider you complete until you have ALL your designated letters in or just when you have the minimum letters they require (e.g. 3)?
Thanks for the clarification!I cannot see what you have assigned me, only what has been received. If you assigned 3 and uploaded 3, I will see 3 letters. If you assigned 4 and uploaded 3, I will see the exact same 3 letters. I will not even know there is a fourth letter to come.
Hence, if you assiged a letter that never came in, you can unassign it and assign a new one in it's stead and I'll never know the difference.
UNLESS: the LOR you unassigned and didn't expect does get sent in at some point. Then, it will be sent also (as an inactive letter).
I am in the exact same situation:
I assigned 4 letters, but only 3 have been uploaded. At this point, I don't think I really need that 4th letter anymore, but I'm SURE it will be uploaded in the next week or so. So, from what I understand now, if I do go ahead and unassign the 4th letter....it will still be sent to all of the programs, but as an "inactive" letter.
What do the programs actually see? Can they read the letter or see who wrote it? I'm trying to determine if I should just leave things as they are and let the letter get uploaded and sent to the programs or....if I should unassign it and not replace it with anything else (leaving only 3 letters). Does the inactive letter thing look bad?
The 3 letters I would have left are pretty strong and I feel good only having those. Basically, if I could go back, I would never have assigned this 4th letter, but now I'm stuck. Any advice?
Also, if I have my student affairs office NOT scan the letter once they get it and I also unassign it, will the programs still see that there is an "inactive" letter or... based on what aPD said, will they never know a 4th letter existed? Thanks again!
