Hi all,

Theoretically if I wanted to set up shop in the US with Canadian med school/psychiatry training what would I need to do? I read somewhere that American/Canadian boards recognize each other's training? Would I need to write USMLEs? Any insight would be much appreciated!

It depends what you want to, where you want to practice, and your immigration status. Many/most? states such as WA state do not require USMLEs for canadian physicians but other states will like florida). If you need a visa (most likely H1b) you may need to do the USMLEs. A canadian medical license and residency training is sufficient to complete the ABPN psychiatry boards. The jobs open for you may be less desirable given that technically to get an H1b the employer would have to argue that they cant find a suitable local candidate but the demand is high so it's not that hard.

Well here I am in the U.S. wanting to move to Canada as soon as possible. Maybe we could trade passports and they wouldn't notice...

lol. I just finished training in the states. Came back home to Canada to practice, now looking for ways to get back to the US.

OP, why are you thinking of moving?
