I am a junior in high school and have a fully loaded(7 classes) course load and need to drop one of my classes, but then there will be a W on my transcript for that college. How would colleges look at that? If my GPA and ACT are good then will I be fine? I don't want to drop it if colleges will think it is bad. I want to get into one of UW-Madison, Uni of Minnesota, or Marquette and my current cumulative gpa is 3.8 and I will be taking the ACT in April but think I can pull off a 28-30 easily with some studying. My two options for dropping are Spanish 4 or Anat and Phys. I already completed the 1st semester of Spanish 4 and got a B that semester and I just started Anat and Phys this semester because it is only a semester long class. Should I drop at all or will a W look really bad? And if I should drop, which of the 2 classes?

This is why moving to hSDN sucks, no one answers! Anyone? 🙂

Drop the Anatomy in favor of doing next year. If you've already completed a semester of Spanish, try and finish the rest of the year. If you drop out, Adcoms will be forced to assume the worst.

I have a W and it didn't effect my medical school app. It's not factored into GPA and I was never asked about. I did get an A the second time around though, which may have helped. I honestly think most adcoms just look at the overall GPA anyway and for grades in some key courses.

Well I have decided and I am going to drop Spanish, I will end up getting a C and it will kill my GPA and I might as well take the W, I mean it can't hurt me that bad considering that I still have over a 3.7 gpa and will probably get in the 28-32 range on the ACT.
