Is it done automatically through an electronic check? Or does someone manually collect the app materials, check off what you have and then mark you complete?

Manually (I think), at least comparing the course list against the transcript and making sure they are BCPM.

Are you talking about AMCAS? I meant completion at the individual schools (secondary, MCAT, LORs, etc)

Somebody has to check the file to see some/all of the following
1) are all the letters complete, filling the requirement and rest of app is done
2) initial read/screen which may include general priority based on formal or informal criteria
3) assign in their workflow to whatever team, subcommittee, group or evaluator should get this file

Then it goes to evaluator(s), then to group, team subcommittee, or committee for II review

Order in which you are marked complete does not mean order you will be evaluated or reviewed. There can be significant time lag

How long after adding a school would you say this normally takes? If someone adds a school to AMCAS in late August, what would the typical timeline be in getting marked complete assuming everything is submitted? I guess this might be dependent on individual schools, but I'm wondering if you have an idea based on your prior experience!

Rule 1: Take a Breath

It take anywhere from 3 days to 3 months, as schools have a finite rate to process applications. Typical is 2-4 weeks but at the end of August you are at the bottom of a big pile.

For some applicants this process will go on until early August 2019 when the WL people get acceptance

If this is true, then why do all the posts say being complete by Labor Day is "early" and being complete by mid-late September is "on-time?" Being at the bottom of a huge pile doesn't sound early to me 🙁 I don't understand this particular timeline...I'm desperately trying to understand why SDN says this.

I had a delayed committee letter and I didn’t pre-write secondaries, but I was complete within a few days at all school after they got my letter. This was end of July/beginning of August. I applied in 2015
