How does informal post-bac work?

Hi there,

I am looking into doing an informal post-bac since I can't afford a formal masters or post-bac program. I tried looking at community colleges but it isn't clear how to proceed.

Could anyone who has successfully done an informal post-bac please advise on how to get started?

Do you just sign up for random classes? Is there a formal enrollment process? Can you just choose any class you need and enroll?

That depends on the school, see what it says on the website. Usually there is some formal process for "admission" but it is really isn't much other than some paperwork or online stuff to fill out. Sign up for the classes you need, look at the pre-reqs for the schools you plan on applying to and see if they accept CC credits.

Informal post-bacs basically means taking classes to boost your grades post-graduation. They can be at any 4 year university of your choosing. The classes you are expected to take are upper division biology classes similar to if not the same classes you will take in dental school. Classes like histology, anatomy, molecular bio, immunology, etc. The informal post-bac is a great alternative and a lot cheaper compared to a formal post bac. Doing well in your post bac work will show adcoms that you are determined to be a dentist and they admire perseverance. Regarding taking them at a CC, I am not sure. You should contact the dental schools that you plan on attending and ask them. Other than that, a local 4 year University is your best bet. You can also contact that local 4 year Uni and ask them about enrolling as a non degree seeking post bac student. Make sure you tell them that you plan on attending dental school and they should help you out.Good luck!
