How does the alternate list work?

I recently interviewed at PCSOM, I have heard that if you don't get in at first and get on the alternate list you stand a good chance of getting in. Does anyone know how the alternate list works at PCSOM? I heard the previous classes had at least 3or 5 per class off the alternate list. Any info. would be greatly appreciated! It may calm me down why I wait to see how I did.
