I am currently looking for apartments and plan to stay in nice neighborhoods, however, the school is 40 minutes away from riding the public transit. Do you think it's worth it? How far did you live from campus?

I lived in apartments 10min away for the first year, then moved to a house 30min away for the last few years.

It gives time to listen to lecture recordings if that is your thing.... I never bothered to but I know some classmates that did. Metallica > Pharmacy lectures

Im lucky enough where my parents have a house 20 minutes away so I am able to commute while living at home.

I also was never able to listen to lectures during my commute for my masters which was 40ish minutes. I just read the news and listened to music. Exam days I would review my notes. Its a good nap time on the way back as well.

I lived at home (~1 hour away from school) with my parents during pharmacy school.

I lived mike from campus first 2 years, walked to campus. The moved home with my parents for last 2 years, about 30 minute drive.

I hated commuting but free rent made the most sense at the time. You can listen to lectures while you drive but I never did.

You can tolerate a commute for finite amount of time if it makes most sense financially for you but when it comes to employment, I recommend avoiding commuting! It is a waste of time in my opinion.

I live an hour and a half away (100 miles) and attend all lectures. I couch surf when we have exams/quizzes, etc so that I dont miss anything if there's traffic. It is definitely not ideal but with a family and my husbands job it is what I have to do. If you have any other option, I would definitely recommend that to avoid the commute.

I lived 10 minute drive away and saved a lot of money vs. living around campus.

i know a guy who lived 50 minutes away and it isnt really an issue for him. i would hate it

If you can live close enough to walk, it's definitely worth it. Bad neighborhoods are bad, but if all you do is walk to and from school, it won't affect you, and it'll keep your rent cheap.

Also, cars and buses are expensive (but that's what loans are for right...). Currently, I live a 30 minute drive away from school, but if I have an 8am class, that can easily be 1 hour+ due to traffic. My life is jumping in and out of HOV to remain inconspicuous and fine-free.
