How fast are LOR's scanned after making slot request? I'm concerned about not making the Sept 1 deadline because of this.

This whole process is daunting to me, and prior to leaving the country mid-August, I thought I was fine on selecting LOR writers and was going to complete the ERAS app process after returning from town.

However, I only discovered a couple days ago that I had to additionally make the slot request for the LOR's to be scanned/uploaded...and am extremely disappointed, as I don't know how long it takes ERAS to scan/upload, and fear they will not be ready by Sept 1st.

Anyone know how long it takes for them to scan/upload? Other thoughts/words of comfort... ? ? ?

Thank you.

This all depends on your Dean's office (assuming you are a U.S. student) - just ask them. My school uploads documents twice A DAY, so once they receive things there is basically no delay - they show up on the "track applications" section immediately. That being said, I only have 2 of my 4 letters up so far and don't expect the others to be ready until mid-late Sept, but I'm still applying Sept 1st. No one's application is "complete" on 9/1 anyway due to transcripts and MSPE's.

9/1 is when things start, but MSPE's don't start getting released to programs until 11/1, right?

Exactly. And that's generally when the deadlines for complete applications (including MSPE and transcripts) start. Most of the programs that I have looked at don't specify their minimum requirements for selecting you for interview, but from what I've heard it's not the end of the world if you have 1 or 2 LOR's that don't come in until Sept/Oct.

Main thing for the OP is that from my experience so far (with 2 LOR's and my photo) there is no delay between when your school uploads the document and when it is available on ERAS. Getting the LOR's in to your school and having your school upload them are the only rate limiting steps.

Ok, that is somewhat reassuring to hear.

Thank you for your thoughts.

So what happens if you submit ERAS on September 1st and have none of your LORs uploaded yet? If you indicate them to be sent- will ERAS automatically submit them ONCE they are uploaded by your school? Does the same go for your photo?

Same question. I have everything ready to go except my LORs which aren't uploaded yet. Should I wait and send it all out when they arrive or can I send out the app. on Sept. 1st and have them updated as the LORs come in? thanx in advance for anyone who answers

Yes and yes.

Just to confirm, is this the question to which your answer was referring?:

Yes, that is what gutonc was referring to. Once you've applied to a program, and you've assigned a photo or an LOR, once that photo or LOR is uploaded it will be sent to the program(s) to which it was assigned. And those programs will be notified that there is an addition to your file.
