Hey guys, I've heard from some people that they only had 1-3 reaction questions (predicting the product) on their DAT for orgo, but I just took Bootcamp Test 1 and about half of the questions were reactions. I'm wondering about typically how many reactions I should anticipate showing up on the real exam?

Roughly 7-10/30 will be reactions in my opinion. (Taken 5 in the past month or so) Definitely can't snooze on the reactions as it will be the make or break. I think that the rxn questions are the easy money as they're usually just memorizing what a specific reagent does to a specific functional group.

I'm not sure I'm understanding...have you taken the exam? I agree though; I was actually hoping there would be a handful of reactions because I find those more straightforward than the other concepts!

what type of concepts are there on the exam? :smug:
Because usually most of the practice we do is based on reactions :cyclops: At least in my case. I hope those concepts are not random or difficult.

I had quite a few reactions so I wouldn't suggest focusing less on remembering them. But since most reactions are based on concepts, so you'll need to know how specific classes of chemicals react with different reagents. Be flexible and don't just memorize.

I've taken 5 practice exams in the past month, but I took the real DAT about a year ago, and like a dummy I didn't prepare very much at all.
