How helpful was destroyer biology?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i want to know too!, but i think the consenus is that it is a very good supplement that you should use after mastering the material.
im almost done going over the bio for the second time, and i know that when i started looking at the questions i missed a bunch..i put it away and came back to it after feeling much more confident..and as of now i feel really comfortable with about 85% of the questions

What other sources are you using for bio? I agree that destroyer needs to be supplemented, but who knows how the real DAT is.

I first read kaplan a bunch of times..then filled stuff in with cliffs ap bio and mcat examcrackers bio.
I keep on hearing about experimental embryology stuff and cloning, so I might look to other sources for that.

I got a 29 on bio on the DAT, you can't bank on one source.

The resources I recommend are the kaplan white book + Cliffs AP bio, this will give you a solid backround on the majority of questions. Destroyer is great for practice and goes over a few concepts not well covered so I advise you do the problems if you do like 30 a day and actually go over the answers your in good shape.

The real key to success tho is to take practice tests after practice test and go over any sections you get ANY questions wrong on. Also you should supp areas your weak in with your bio textbook and wiki.

I know this is not the answer you want to hear there is ZERO shortcut when it comes to bio you have to know pretty much everything....areas in more detail are cell bio + biochem + development.

I wasn't looking for a quick answer, just simply wanted to know everyones thoughts on destroyer's bio section.

While your at it, how did you find kaplans subject tests?

no doubt man I didn't mean to sound like a jerk :hardy:

Destroyers bio section is top notch the more practice problems you do the better your odds.

I took kaplans course and the online stuff comes with it (in reality the online stuff is what makes kaplans course good) except for PA kaplan is terrible with PA =/

If your not taking the course you might be able to buy the online material off of someone who did. Generally the course online material expires soon after someone completes the course tho.

Your not a jerk at all, actually with a 29 in bio your my hero!!!

Yea I have kaplan online, like you said the subject tests etc are very helpful. Are the full lengths on the same level?

😛

the subject tests are more difficult then the general full length test sections......

The full length tests are very similar to the DAT while the subject tests test specific areas in more detail.

So don't freak if you don't do so hot on a subject test, just learn and move on

Yea I have been noticing that. Thanks for the words of wisdom!

Man, destroyer was on the money for chem and ochem, but for bio, it didn't help me at all. The 20 I received came solely from studying Cliffs.

ok i have to disagree
i took the DATs Aug 23rd.. and 8 days before my exam i took the achiever 1, and i definitely got a 15 on it. Then I decided to go over the whole kaplan book lol and then go over the destroyer... the whole book. I feel like kaplan semi-helped with bio, but destroyer helped me the most. I learn best with answers that destroyer provides.. thye're gchem was ehh but i definitely recommend it!

hope this helps!

o and i ended up getting a 22 on the bio on my test day 🙂
