how important are interviews?

Exactly how important are they? I thought acceptances to programs are based mainly on USMILE scores, with interviews and ECs making little difference.

USMLE scores get you in the door for an interview. The interview helps you secure your spot on the rank list. An particularly bad interview can get you ranked poorly. A particularly good one may get you a higher ranking than your other scores would allow.
