I might be making 3 B's this semester. Bringing my total number of B's in college to 7. This will lower my GPA from 3.93 to 3.87. How significant is this to adcomms? I mean really, it shouldn't matter that much right? I know it looks a little bad because its a drop from 3.9 to 3.8.

I also know that I'm probably ridiculous for worrying about a 0.06 drop, but then again, a lot people on this forum would probably feel the same way.

What's your take on this?

Please, no posts about how I'm an ass for complaining about a 3.8 when some people have 3.0s. I already know I'm an ass, but be that as it may, it is completely irrelevant to my present inquiry.

Thank you.

Hes probably including B+'s and some of them could be 1 credit classes (like a lab class)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have 190+ hours at my university. The funny thing is, I only have one major. I did a business foundations thing that was like a minor, except they called it a certification.

even 1-2 Bs this semester for u shouldn't have dropped ur GPA that much since u have a lot of hours/credits already.

but 3.93 would def look WAY better 😉 i would kill for that

My honest to goodness, straight-faced answer is that you should go to bed and leave the worrying to those who really have something to worry about.

Damn it. I knew it! I was trying to convince myself it didn't make that much of a difference. Oh well, I suppose I'll be pulling an all nighter tonight then. Maybe I'll be able to minimize the damage.

I hope you're kidding me! It will most likely do nothing unless your GPA was your only selling point to med schools, in which case it would mean you have a lot of work to do anyway.

Relax, man!

Thanks, I wish I could relax, but I think it's within the nature of every pre-med student, be their GPA 2.8 or 4.0, to worry about every excruciating detail of their profile.

They say the media is the reason everyone is so self-conscious these days. Obviously, these people have never applied to medical school.

I worry about my GPA too, and try to do all I can to make it as good as possible. For example, this semester, I had to present some research articles for a later paper that I wrote. The entire process of submitting the articles was worth 7 points, but I completely forgot about it. Anyway, the TA offered that if I can get the articles to her lab (slipping them under her lab door) prior to her arriving the next day, I wouldn't lose the 1 point late deduction (please keep in mind, this is a 1 credit hour class, and 1 point overall out of a possible 200 in the lab). Sure enough, it rained that night, but I still put on a raincoat and walked about more than halfway across campus to the Bio building just so I could save myself that 1 measley point. I simply knew that had I not gone that extra mile and that point would've made a difference, I'd probably be somewhat hard on myself.

Anyway, ofcourse a 3.93 looks nicer than a 3.87. But a 3.87 GPA is still totally awesome, so I don't think you should worry much. As everyone else said, those 0.06 points shouldn't make much of a difference unless your MCAT isn't that great, in which case that'd probably have a more profound impact on your overall app. Overall, I don't think you should worry very much about this at all. 🙂
