I know that clinical experience during dental school is super important but HOW important are they?

I have one school with 55k/yr (with financial aid that will help me with few grand/yr). It's near my home and I intend to live here after; went to undergrad here. Small number of people per class (47). However, the clinic situation isn't ideal. Actually it's pretty far from ideal. One of the professors I know personally actually recommended going somewhere else because of the lack of clinical experience you get from this school.

My other school is NYU so you guys all know about the 77k/yr + unbelievable living expenses. But they do have great program and I would love to live in NYC.

I even heard that some dentists are reluctant to hire graduates from the first mentioned school because of their lack of training with real patients.

What do you guys think? should I sacrifice 30k/yr to get a better clinical experience?

Go to the cheaper school. Clinical experience isn't worth 120k.
if people are hesitant to hire graduates from that school, I don't think it's that easy of a decision....how would he go about getting clinical experience?

OP, do graduates from that school get into GPR programs? if so, I'd still go to the cheaper school and then do a GPR year

Go to UBC. One of the tip top best dental schools in all of North America, IMO. Med school classes + extremely small class size wins. NYU/NYC is nice and all, but BC is no slouch (if you got some cash to burn lol)

Most dentists tell you that they learn more in their first year of practice than they did in all of dental school. Stick with UBC

Thanks guys🙂 I've got some time to decide untill I pay the 11grand deposit for UBC.

Is UBC one of the top dental schools in NA? I only really knew it as one of the one dental school in bc..

There's no d school ranking, so everything's just subjective. My opinion is yes it is, but others might disagree. Then again, I tend to prefer med-integrated curriculums (McGill, included), so my opinion is heavily biased.

I'm actually unsure about this. I don't think they really do? As far as I know they just either go straight to work as an associate or go into other specialties. I should look that. Thanks🙂
