I want to go into neurosurgery, but don't have alot of research. How important is it to have research experience? I'm a M2 and don't feel like I have any time for research at this point....but I'm worried I won't be able to get matched to a good neurosurgery residency.

You might want to post in the Surgery forum? But, Neurosurg is a very small field and I would expect most (if not all) applicants have some sort of neurosurgery research background before applying for residency. It's also a useful way to make meaningful connections with physicians in your home department.

I'd definitely talk to a physician in your home department about this. You could do something simple (i.e. clinical research and/or case reports, etc.). A lot of these are small studies you can work on at home (even as a 3rd year) with an existing data set.

Your status is MD/PhD student and you are worried about not getting research before you match?

The Uncle Harvey forums will probably be much more helpful... although the link isn't working right now. I'm not sure what's going on, or if they're even still around. Maybe there are cached versions of the threads floating around the internet somewhere.

Thank you! I will google it and see what I come up with!
