how much does your actual major weigh in in the application process? for example, a micro/molecular biology major vs a biology major, where the material is much more rigorous. thanks!

This question has been asked many times over so if you want lots of answer right away try the search function.

In my opinion your major is not too important, all students are going to take the same prereqs, just make sure you do well in those. The advantage of a science major is that many of the prereqs are part of your major, so you can finish quicker and not have to juggle classes for your major with prereqs.
In my class we have people who majored in science, art, liberal arts, religion and so on. Just make the grades in the classes that count, show your desire for pharmacy, get experience and volunteer in your community. Volunteering with the elderly is usually as easy position to come by, looks good on applications and is a rewarding volunteer position.

Major means nothing in my opinion and my experience of applying last year and this year, all it matters that you have absolutely outstanding communicating skills and from what I have noticed most science majors including myself do not.

You have a higher chance of getting accepted into awesome schools if you major in humanities. If I could do it all over again, I would major in English. I doubt they are going to consider microbio major is much harder than bio, because then all the micro bio majors would be passed in favor of boichem majors which is much more intense at least at my school.

I think that generally speaking, it does not matter. But this could change depending on the school you apply to.

Totally agree. Hmmn, microbio at my school has the lowest or 2nd lowest GPA. You get no love from professional schools. If anything, major in communications. I probably would major in com if I can do it all over again.
Avoid the major that all pre-health students are in 👍

I hope my major in Mass Communcations (Public Relations)/French minor doesn't hurt me. Its bad enough my B.S. is from way back in 1999.

It will probably only benefit you considering that it will demonstrate that you have amazing communication skills. 🙂
