Technology How is cingular 8525 as a PDA cum phone

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I second that. I'm loving mine. Well I'm still paranoid about dropping it, but other than that I've had no problems.

I've already done that and it knocked out the (double sized) battery, otherwise survived fine.

I like it although surfing SDN is marginal.

i'm trying to decide between this phone and the treo 750. glad to know everyone has found this phone to be ideal.

I'm also thinking about upgrading my phone to the 8525 but maybe you guys can help me decide. I know it's a lot of questions, but it's quite a bit of an investment and don't want to be stuck with a phone I'm unhappy with:

(1) How heavy & large is it? Ie. can you comfortably carry it in pockets in your khaki pants? What if you put it in a slim cover?

(2) Do you have to upgrade you contract to use wireless features (WiFi) or does the phone simply recognize wireless networks (at coffee shops or such) and allows you to use it for free?

(3) How's the battery life, especially with heavy use as a PDA?

(4) How is the OS and processor? Stability?

(5) What about expansion as far as external/storage memory?

(6) How's the video playback on the phone? I read it has some lag... Can you download Divx files (movies, shows) and watch 'em? Screen size large enough to read articles/PDF files comfortably?

(7) And last, how is it as an actual phone? Do you have to use the bluetooth set or can you just put it up to your ear? Sounds ok or hollow? Speaker good enough?

Thanks for your help.

Bump - curious about this phone as well. Anyone know enough about tech stuff to determine whether something great is just around the corner, or is this going to work well for a few years?

Acquired this thing a couple of weeks ago...I'll try to answer some of Mark's questions..if he hasn't gotten them yet..
1) its heavier than my previous SE P800..but I carry it in my khaki pants; ordered a leather holster but it feels bulkier
2) I have instructed AT&T to shut off all data access on my account and just using Wifi; connects just like any other laptop with a wifi card
3) with heavy PDA use, I come down to about 30-50% at end of the day
4) stable, reliable and fast enuff though I usually only have 2 apps running
5) WM6 accepts 4 GB microSD now they say, am only using 2 GB
6) tried playing a video off SD card, it is laggy, haven't tried Divx yet; PDF files can be iffy as screen size seems small
7) good reception, call quality is very good and I can hear fine from the phone.

There's a buzz about an 8925 or maybe that's the HTC Kaizer. Lots of neat things on it but I use my phones for quite a while. With some software upgrading, updating, I can use this thing for the next 3 years.
